Start To Write Poetry

Starting out | Poetry

Kickstart your writing life with a day at the home of British poetry with one of the country's leading poets.

There is nowhere better to start writing poetry than on the fourth floor of Faber & Faber's offices in Bloomsbury. With Jo Shapcott, you will get instant feedback on your poems, learn how to find inspiration all around you, and explore how to start reading – and thinking – like a poet.

Answer for yourself a deceptively simple question – what is a poem?

What makes an effective image?

How do you know when a poem is "finished"?

Join acclaimed poet Maurice Riordan at the Faber Academy to find out.

Start To Write Poetry is the perfect introduction to writing poetry, and an excellent primer for our longer poetry courses, too. If you're thinking about poetry, start here.
